Sunray and AWN problems on Saturday afternoon/evening ....

SNF Lab Members:

We have restarted the computer named flare that supports the Sunrays and normal Sunray behavior seems to have been restored.  At the moment, we are checking logs in order to identify what may have caused the unsatisfactory performance that you saw yesterday afternoon.  While it may not be the cause, I can tell you that there is a very high correlation between runaway mozilla sessions and problems with Sunray behavior.  So, if you think that something goes wrong with a mozilla session, we'd appreciate it if you would let us know so that we could kill the session before it causes problems.

Also, when you experience problems if this type, sending email to coral@snf.stanford.edu is likely to result in the quickest response.  While, in this case, I was unavailable much of yesterday, that is usually the most efficient way of making us are of either Coral or Sunray problems.

Finally, there were reports of the AWN yellow lights being on yesterday afternoon.  While I don't know whether someone from facilities responded to the problem (a central campus operations and maintenance office is supposed to notice those alarms and call them out), it appears as if things are fully operational this morning.  Accordingly, we hope that there will be no problems with either the Sunrays or the AWN system today.

Thank you for your continued support,

John
